PIRATE RADIO
For my final grad project I founded the community pirate radio station Fernwood Autonomous Radio 99.1 FM in November of 2011. A self declared loose-knit group of creatives, musicians, artists, poets, bakers, guerilla gardeners, DJ’s, rebels and conformists, FAR 99.1 challenged the ideas of freedom of speech and autonomy of the airwaves through weekly radio broadcasts. Though we were shut down by the CRTC in March of 2012 we had amassed community support and garnered attention in local print media and were featured on CTV news.
In April of 2013 I gave a lecture on Fernwood Autonomous Radio at the 2014 Trans X Symposium.
